Education allowance for disabled children (AEEH)
Verified 01 April 2025 - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)
What is the Education Allowance for Disabled Children (AEEH)? This is a financial assistance to compensate for your expenses related to your child's disability under 20 years. The AEEH is paid to parents. It may be supplemented, in certain cases, by other allowances. We present you with the information you need to know.
The Education Allowance for the Disabled Child (AEEH) helps you pay for certain expenses :
- Monthly expenses related to your child's disability (care, education...)
- Need to hire a third party to care for your child
- The need to reduce or stop working to take care of your child.
When your child has a disability whose nature and severity require particularly costly expenses, a supplement to the HEADS may be awarded.
For the determination of AEEH supplement, your child's disability is classified by the CDAPH: titleContent (from level 1 to level 6).
In addition, if you are a lone parent, you can also benefit from a specific increase for a lone parent.
To receive the AEEH, your child must complete all of the following conditions :
- Be under 20
- Have a disability rate equal to or greater than 80%. This rate may be between 50% and less than 80% if your child receives support from a medical-social institution or service, an adapted school system, care and/or rehabilitation in connection with his disability, recommended by the CDAPH.
- Not earning more than 55% the gross monthly minimum, or €990.99
- Reside in France permanently.
FYI
Your child must not be in boarding school with full coverage of the costs of stay by the health insurance, the State or the department.
The request can be made online through an online service, if the MDPH: titleContent of your place of residence offers it:
Application for MDPH benefits (AAH, PCH ...) and renewal
You can also apply by post through a form:
Application or renewal of disability benefits (AAH, PCH, CMI, accommodation ...)
You must contact supporting documents mentioned in connection with your online application or on the form.
Documents must be sent (or scanned if you apply online) to the MDPH: titleContent of your place of residence.
The CDAPH meets to decide on your request for an AEEH and its supplements.
Its response usually occurs in a four-month period from the date of submission of your application.
If no reply is received after 4 months, the request shall be considered as rejected.
