Summer 2025 sales: dates

Summer sales start on the last Wednesday of June at 8 a.m. This date is brought forward to the penultimate Wednesday of June when the last Wednesday occurs after the 28th of the month.

Summer sales will take place from Wednesday, June 25 to Tuesday, July 22, 2025 inclusive for the majority of metropolitan departments except:

• Corsica (2A and 2B): 9 July to 5 August

Specific dates apply in certain overseas departments:

• Guadeloupe (971): from 27 September to 24 October
• Martinique (972): from 2 October to 29 October
• La Réunion (974): from 6 September to 3 October (winter sales)
• Saint Pierre and Miquelon (975): 16 July to 12 August
• Saint-Barthélémy (977): from 11 October to 7 November
• Saint Martin (978): from 11 October to 7 November

Products sold

The products sold must have been offered for sale and paid for at least one month before the beginning of the sales. It shall be prohibited to make a supply specially intended for sales a few days before the start date of the commercial operation, without the products having been offered for sale beforehand.

In the store, the distinction between sold and unsold items must be clearly visible to consumers: precise labeling, separate location in the store, in particular.

Price

The seller must clearly indicate the discounts offered in relation to an actual reference price. It is thus forbidden to increase the price of a product before the sales period, in order to make it appear as though a promotional offer is larger than it really is.

The trader must be able to justify reference prices for the products sold: either the lowest price actually charged before the start of the promotion, or the price recommended by the supplier or the network head-end.

Furthermore, it is prohibited not to make the price reductions displayed in the shop window, a practice described as misleading advertising.

Sale Advertising

Under penalty of a fine of 1 500 €, any advertisement relating to a sale transaction must mention:

• the start date of the operation;
• the nature of the goods sold, if all the products of the establishment are not concerned by removal from storage.
